WebMar 18, 2016 · Regular coil requires 12 volts to start; then pink resistor wire drops voltage to about 8 volts ( 12 volts divided 1.5 ohms ) = 8 volts; 8 volts required to run . If 12 volts are used to run, it will burn coil out. The pink resistor wire is a Ni chrome ( resistant) wire at about 1.5 ohms but is able to carry the current required. WebNov 6, 2024 · When cranking, the solenoid sends the full 12V from the battery on the brown wire to the plug where it ties to the Red/Green wire back to the coil. This gives a better spark when starting. When released, the Red/Green wire feeds Ignition power out of the Ign Switch through the resistor wire which drops the voltage to about 6-9 volts at the coil.
